Explore Vietnam in Two Weeks!
Vietnam is becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in Asia with many travellers being drawn by its exquisite nature and appealing culture. With its iconic long slim shape, Vietnam is the perfect destination for a South to North adventures (or vice versa).
Mind you, this journey can take months to travel as the list of things to explore is incredibly long. Two weeks is what we would consider a minimum for a South to North journey and here we give our suggestion for such a trip.
- Arrive in Ho Chi Minh and explore this vibrant capital of the south.
- Catch the local bus from Ho Chi Minh to charming Dalat – also known as “Le Petit Paris”.
- Explore the outskirts and countryside of Vietnam on a 6-day motorbike adventure from Dalat to Hoi An.
- Explore Hoi An for a few days and head north to Hue.
- Catch the night train from Hue to Hanoi and enjoy the atmosphere onboard. Why not join the locals in the restaurant carriage.
- Enjoy Hanoi before you head out to sea at Halong Bay on a two day adventure cruise.
- End your trip back in Hanoi with a cold beer or hot coffee in one its many charming cafes.
Not sure when you should travel to Vietnam? This trip is done best from September - November and again in March - April.
Saigon aka Ho Chi Minh City
You can make this journey from either Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City or vice versa. We suggest the latter option and start out in the south and head up north. There’s no specific reason why we recommend this other than Hanoi is a great place to end your journey and if you have more time, Hanoi is the gateway to the beautiful Northern Vietnam.
Arriving in Ho Chi Minh City we recommend you take a few days to explore the city. If you have more than 2 weeks, we can highly recommend a trip to the Mekong Delta for a few days or visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels to get a glimpse of the Vietnam War.
From Ho Chi Minh City hop on a bus to Dalat. It’s approximately a 6-hour journey so don’t forget a good book or to charge your powerbank. Once in Dalat make sure to soak in all you can from this unique Vietnamese town. Dalat is very much inspired by its former french occupants and is also called "Le Petit Paris" and even have a miniature Eiffel Tower.
Motorbike Adventure in Central Vietnam
There are many ways to travel from Dalat and onwards, but we would highly recommend this 6-day easy rider tour from Dalat to Hoi An. The distance does not warrant a 6 day journey, but this detour is quite amazing! Motorbikes are famous throughout Vietnam and travelling by motorbike in Vietnam became a travellers dream after the Vietnam Special episode by Top Gear – a world famous tv show. Here, they drove from North to South Vietnam by scooter on an epic journey.
This tour is not THAT epic, but epic in its own right, nonetheless. You will visit remote regions and historic places like the Ho Chi Minh Trail, a vital part of the Vietnamese War, along with local villages and exquisite nature. There are of course many other ways of traveling from Dalat to Hoi An, this is just one way we wish to highlight.
Hoi An is a charming city located by the water and we recommend spending a day or two here. From here head north to Hue for a day or two before catching the night train to Hanoi.
Hanoi and Halong Bay
A trip to Vietnam is not complete without a visit to Halong Bay. Although it’s overrun by tourists, Halong Bay is still one of the most beautiful places in the world. Spend one or two nights here on a boat or head out to Cat Ba Island to beat most of the tourists that go here for a 1-day trip.
End your two week journey in Hanoi – a city loved by most! Enjoy the many charming cafés and try a traditional coffee with egg (it’s the best “latte” you’ll ever have). Spend a few days here to explore the city and its surroundings. If you have more time in Vietnam, why not head North to explore the remote villages and awesome nature?

I contacted Bikudo Travel for advice on a 2 week journey with my girlfriend. We ended up going to Tanzania for safari and beaches and it was one of the best experiences we've had!
